Pistol grip for the Lee-Enfield ?

Incorrect, this was not an official modification. That being said, I have seen this done to cadet DP No 4's as well.....seeing they were DP's, I chose to look the other way so to speak....

only the sea cadets perform this monstrosity that I've ever seen, and they're the bottom of the food chain so to speak. And the ones I've seen, the pistol grip extension was attached to the bottom of the magazine. It's only there because lee enfield drill was too complex for their waterlogged brains......

(oh, I was an army cadet, and we either did lee enfield drill with #7's or used C1A1's and did the proper drill with them)

I suspect that adding a pistol grip to a Lee would slow down the cycling of the action. You've got to get your thumb out from under before the bolt handle can be seized.

Lee is such a "natural" for installing a pistol grip. Yes, I think it would slow down the cycling of the action, with some split seconds. However, it might increase the "pointabelity" and accuracy of the Lee, and thus offset the split second disadvantage from the use of a pistol grip ?

There was a semi-pistol grip stock made in WWII for the LB snipers. Brits didn't adopt it because it was Canadian, sniff, sniff, despite all the people who tried it over there, loving it. Same as the C67 scope, all kinds of games were played to make it 'ineligible'. This is from Clive Law's Without Warning, by the way.

Any pics of that?

NZ Charltons were made up from long Lee-Enfields and Lee-Metfords and the work was done by Charlton's Motor Garage. Aussie Charltons were made up mostly from SMLEs and the work was done by Electrolux. Funny, but Electrolux was owned by Axel Wenner-Gren, good pal of the Duke of Windsor, Sir Harry Oakes, and of assorted stiff-armed people who goose-stepped a lot. Interesting chap...... thankfully HE didn't do the conversions.

There is rather a nice Charlton in the Pattern Room collection. Far as I could see, only Bren part used was the magazine. Nice piece but they wouldn't let me take it home. All Charltons, including the semi-auto rifle conversion, had pistol grips....... needed them when that cage started moving backwards!
