Who sells pistol grip shot guns? are they all non restricted? What is a good brand to buy? reliable. I was checking fence lines and come along some bears. If it happens again I wanna have a little more than a hammer in my hands next time.

Thanks

You can buy short barreled shotguns with a full stock in Canada non restricted so if the goal is to have a handy gun with the best performance that would be your best bet.

Pistol grip is legal the overall length needs to be 26inches and above to avoid hassle....you can buy Chinese remington 870 clones with 14", 12.5" and even 8.5" barrels.

The 14 and 12.5 inchers sell for around $350 and Im not sure what the 8.5's go for but they are a bit more and have shortened mag tubes that hold 3 shells instead of 4 though some people have gotten 4 2 3/4" shells to fit....

Canada Ammo has brought in a lot of short shotguns from china and some of the other sponsers just got some in recently so try a search for norinco, HP-9,Grizzly, Backpacker,Outlaw etc....

The 8.5 inch clones with a youth stock are the shortest but even the 14" guns are quite handy, cheaper, easier to find and hold an extra shell plus you can use longer barrels on them if you want where as the 8.5 inch guns are specific to that length due to the modified magtube.

is a pistol grip legal? I was thinking as small as possible and strap to the front of a quad. or throw in a milk crate in the front of a quad is more accurate. What are some options for short barreled cheap but reliable.

Remington 870,
Mossberg 500,
Mossberg 590,
Fabarm martial,
Norinco HP9-1,
Dominion Arms Grizzly.

It will have to be over 26" to still remain non restricted, I was in the same boat.

Ended up going with a 12.5" removable mag fed Grizzly sold by canada ammo.

Kinda funny, its the same name as my quad, Grizzly!

I like the Maverick 88 cruiser, its about as light as your gonna get for a pump 12 ga. and about 28.5". You can slap a pistol grip on anything you want, its overall length that you need to be concerned with. If it goes under 660mm it will have to be re-classed as restricted. Any 12 ga. pump with an 18" or longer barrel will be over 660mm with a pistol grip installed. The 88 cruiser is $230 at wholesale sports. I need to see some good chrono results from a short bbl 12 ga. before trusting one to defensive work

If the purpose of this gun is bear defense do not get a pistol grip!!!!!!!!

Recoil management and follow up shots are not even close to comparable to a shoulder stock. Accuracy is a whole different story altogether. There are not too many people who would advocate a pistol grip for any type of defense related use.

Buy a short barreled full stocked shotgun such as a Norinco HP9. I was playing with one today and it is the perfect gun for what you describe. Only $300!!!

I use a Maverick 88 with an 18 inch barrel and full stock myself, and even though it is a 4 inch longer barrel it is really light and easy to carry as well. Only $229!!!

Tacstar sells some good ones. I have both front and rear pistol grips on my 500 with a 18.5" barrel. Overall lengrth is like 27" so non restricted and I have a 6 shot side saddle on it as well. With practise they're easy to shoot accurate. I manage 14s with mine in skeet with the heat shield on. Get alota looks tho

a have the pistol grip with a side folding stock on my moss 500
so when its folded you can get it in and out of tight spaces and when you are ready to fire you can fold it out

Nothing on Earth is more useless than a shotgun with no stock.
Having a loaded firearm on a motorized vehicle is illegal. Loaded means ammo in the gun.

Sunray thinks Micheal Ignatieff is more useful than a gun. :p Ah just buggin ya ;) In Alberta you can keep a weapon loaded in or on a motorized vehicle so long as it is for vicious animal defense and not unattended. If you leave the vehicle than typical storage rules apply. Olansky, It can be done! using th bead I mean, by extending and properly bracing your arms. It also spreads the recoil over both your arms/hands cutting felt recoil in half compared to John Wayne'n it off the hip. Standard 2 3/4" slugs are quite manageable this way. It by no means is as good as a fixed stock but it works. :)

Choate makes a great all steel top folder (3rd from top).

I've got a mossberg 500 Persuader. It's had the pistol grip on it since the day I brought it home.
Yes, it kicks like a b*tch. But nothing a man can't handle. Shoot 2 3/4 #4 birdshot.
Yes, accuracey sucks. But your going for bear protection. 99.9% of bears just need to hear the shot and their gone. And if he come forward instead of running then he'll be close enough you don't need to aim anyway. Your not gonna kill him with bird shot anyway so your looking to scare him off.
"It's illegal to carry a loaded gun on a vehicle" ... he's out in the pasture checking fence. Who cares.
Like I said... your not gonna kill him with a shotgun but your gonna scare him away. Still, you should get a beater sks. $150 and you can strap it to the quad and you've got 5 rapid fire KILL shots as he's charging you.
Peace.

We have NEA Shotgun Grip adapters for the Mossberg and Rem 870. They're the best designed and fordable priced adapters you can get. $89 billet construction and have QD sling points. They're the only ones that are actually designed to follow the lines of your gun so they look like they should be there, not just an afterthought.

Leave it with just the grip or slap on a AR stock. Can't beat it.
