Just thought I'd get a discussion going about pistol grip undercuts.
Myself, I prefer the maximum undercut possible on a pistol grip, thus allowing my hand to ride up as high as possible. This givers me better control for aiming and shock absorbtion after each shot.
Below is a picture of my Dlask 1911 Custom .45 - it has a maximized undercut. I also own a Dan Wesson bobtail .45 whose undercut is less pronounced, but still good enough for me.
Strangely, my friend recently bought a Dan Wesson Pointman 7 .45 and it has virtually no, if any, undercut at all. Visually, this gun is very similar to my Dlask, but the lack of undercut radically changes the whole experience for me - to the point that I would not buy a Pointmant 7 for that reason. I have a large hand and it is forced to the very bottom of the handle, so much so that my little finger is halfway sliding off.
THE POINT OF THE STORY is that you take a big risk buying a pistol that you have not had the chance to, at bare minimum, hold in your hand, let alone shoot. My buddy bought the Pointman 7 off the internet without ever having held one. He likes it - he got lucky. I must confess that I bought my Dan Wesson bobtail .45 last year without ever having held one - and I got lucky too... (a gun magazine reviewer with large hands said the gun fit him perfectly)... but I'm never taking that chance again.
Let's hear what you all have to say on this subject! Personal prefereces, stories etc.
