What do you think about this pistol grip to help muzzle control?
Index finger of the weak hand on the trigger guard.
Getting ready for my second IPSC match, need all the help I can get.:)

i do that nearly all the time, but i also lock my entire right arm (shoulder to wrist) so i'm basically pushing with the right palm and pulling with the left index finger. the sights come right back on target nicely at least half the time (i'm still a newbie), and the other half of the time just need a small adjustment.

I would call it "non-standard".

That grip was popular a few years back...but it has fallen out of favour now.

The best way it's been explained to me on getting a good grip is this:

Strong hand as normal.

Extend arms.

Open support hand, fingers together, thumb vertical, fingers horizontal.

Rotate hand downwards to approximately 45 degrees.

Wrap it around your strong hand.

Both thumbs point forward.

This should allow maximum contact. It feels awkward at first but eventually becomes so natural you will forget everything else.

Yeah, near as I can tell modern pistols are starting to go away from having a "grip" area on the front of the trigger guard.

My thinking is this: My second strongest finger is my index finger... do I really want to waste it's strength on the trigger guard where it doesn't exert as much "backward" pressure on the lower part of the grip so as to contradict the muzzle climb generated by the recoil forces as if it were pulling under the trigger guard in concert with my other fingers?

Ok, that didn't sound as simple as I had hoped.
