Thinking I want a pistol that chambers 40S&W. I haven't really narrowed it down to anything yet. Thinking about a M&P but I'm not too sure yet. What do you guys think? To further narrow it down, I've already got a Baby Eagle, a STI, a Beretta Elite II and a USP all in 9mm. I'm certain that I don't want to repeat and buy the mentioned above in 40S&W.

Springfield XD HANDS DOWN. Best gun I own. It shoots anything, accurate as hell, easy to dissasemble.

The best part is that it is way safer than a Glock to use as it has a loaded chamber indicator, backstrap safety and a firing pin indicator.

For the price, you can't beat it.

P229 or P226, whichever fits your hand better. You haven't lived until you've owned a Sig :D

Stay away from plastic.

The only issue I have with the XD is the finish. I've seen a couple of buddy's XD slide get a little rust from storing in the safe (in areas where there were hoster wear).

I'd say pass on .40 go for 10mm or at least a .45 :)

but M&P is a nice gun...

I would get a 10mm but I don't reload. I've seen that most of the factory 10mm isn't much different than the factory 40 S&W, so I opted to pass on the 10mm simply because it's twice the money of the 40S&W. As for the 45 acp, I've got something in the works, so hopefully that will happen soon too. Chance are I will be selling off a couple of my 9mm pistols when I get a 40 S&W and the 45 ACP.

I've owned a couple of 226 in 9mm in the past, but ended up selling them (don't ask). I've got to admit that I would love to try a P229 in 40S&W, perhaps this is the winner. But I don't know anyone that has one that could let me try out.

Maybe...........

Agreed. Old, first generation XD's had this problem. Mine is only a year and a half and its good as gold. They changed something with the coating to make it more durable.

I sold my 9mm 226 as well, but my 229 is a completely different animal. The 229 feels like an extension of my arm, and it shoots 40S&W like no other 40S&W pistol I've ever shot (admittedly not many, though). The only reason I even mentioned the 226 is because of the people who claim the 226 feels better in their hand than the 229....

If you're ever in Montreal, you're welcome to put a few rounds through mine. :D

Thanks for the offer my friend. But I'm all the way in Vancouver.

I wouldn't trade my Beretta for anything and it's eaten everything I've fed it thusfar (including my first-time reloads).

Agreed, my elite II is a keeper.

good to see someone buys into marketing schemes about what makes a pistol safe.
