Pistol Jam, is it the magazine or is it the gun itself?

Hi, fellow gunnutz, I'm having issue with my Para Ordnance 1911 .45 ACP. It jam's when I put 6 or more rounds in the magazine while when I just put 5 rounds everything works perfectly fine. Last night I did inspect it and tried putting 7 rounds and again it keeps on jamming, I have one round where the bullet got pushed in. Is there anyone here that can tell me if my magazine or my pistol is defective. Or, shall I see a gunsmith instead. Thanks for everyone who will pay attention to this one.

Exactly what type of malfunction is it? Failure to feed? Failure to Fire? Stovepipe? Failure to Eject? Or is the slide locking back on every shot, or not locking back when the magazine is empty? If it was the gun it probably wouldn't matter how many cartridges are in the magazine.

Failure to feed is probably a magazine issue. Magazines are consumable, they get old and springs wear out and feed lips get bent, even if their Canadian pricetags suggest otherwise. If you can, try some other magazines, preferably new ones if you can. You said a bullet got pushed in, that sounds like the cartridge was not at the proper angle and the bolt face caught the cartridge and rammed it into the front of the magazine. There might be some anti-tilt followers that could fix it, or replacement spring. I've noticed with some magazines, sometimes the spring can get caught on the rivet, and cause problems that way.

Though, if the gun is actually jamming, and things are getting stuck, it could be one or more of several different issues.

Stovepipes could be an ammo problem or a gun problem. Might be fixed by trying a different type of anmo, or by checking to see if any of your springs need to be replaced or other parts are getting worn out.

Failure to Eject/extract could be either an ammo or a gun problem.

Locking back on every shot is probably user error, your thumb might be riding on the lever.

Failure to feed is probably a magazine issue.

It also can be a extractor issue as the 1911 platform is controlled round feed system--> the rim of the case slides under the ejector before it enters the chamber
