joined the local range last weekend in anticipation of the wife and I receiving our Rpal's soon.we went up yesterday to let the wife blast off a 10-22 for the first time ( I have my Pal) . We had a blast sighting in a scope for the first time ever, and I got to shoot my .270 for the first time ever also, which was pretty cool also. We were beside a father with two teenage sons, they were shooting a few different rifles and a few pistols, and we got talking about handguns, and how we were going to be buying our own. He insisted that I must try his Shadow Canadian for myself, which was sweet, and after finding out I was a lefty, called his buddy over who is also a lefty. I said I was considering buying an FN fns9 because it is fully ambidextrous, so his buddy pulled out an fns40 for me to try, and also gave me some advise as he had just written a review of 15 handguns for lefties. A very cool day for the wife and I for sure.
So ,since we have applied, we have had one CGN member take us to the range to try out a few handguns, and two total strangers insist we try their handguns. We will make sure we pass on the good karma when we become handgun owners :)
 
No matter when we own, we are all proud to have and show them off. It's the media that makes us all look mental and criminal.

I had several people insist I try their handguns and that is what got me hooked on handguns and how I got my RPAL. Hoping to pass on the karma this summer when more people are out at the range. Also got a few guys from work that want to come out and try some stuff.
 
Very nice range/community report. I'm also a lefty. Unless you plan on sharing a handgun with your wife (assume she's a righty) most lefty's will advise you not to think you have to limit yourself to fully ambidextrous handguns. Most lefty's learn to operate standard righty controls just fine. You may find this to work for you as well. Now for me personally I prefer a lefty mag release but that's just me. Even this does not require a fully ambidextrous handgun, just a swappable mag release. All I'm saying is do not limit your selection pool just because you are a lefty. Try to determine what works best for you.

You are probably right, I'm sure there are great people in all aspects of the shooting community, just speaking bout my limited experience with handgun people, but I've never had someone insist I try their running shoes :)

Very common occurrence at Abby Fish & Game.

I am extremely guilty of insisting people try my firearms out if they eyeball them with interest, an if they have something I can shoot in return all the better.
 
That is awesome. When I am at the range anyone is free to try my guns.

Canadians are known the world over for being nice, and firearm owning Canadians are even nicer!:cheers:
 
When I first got my FNX 45 tac I was at my local range and another one of the regulars came over and began telling me everything about the gun. He said it was his dream gun and hoped to one day own one himself. Long story short he fires the first 30 rounds out of my brand new gun lol. I think I enjoyed seeing the big grin on his face that day more than I enjoyed my shoot. When ever possible pay it foward.
 
As it says on my profile, I'm a 'Dark Lord of the Soot', a Black Powder guy. It's not the only thing I shoot, but it's about 80% of my collection. Normally when I'm at the range I have at least one BP firearm with me. I get a lot of looks when I first 'bust a cap' (yes, that is where the term originated), especially in one of my Colt 1860 Army's. I love to have people try my guns; there is nothing quite as satisfying as the grin on their face when someone takes their first steps to the 'Dark Side'.:evil:

IMHO, this is how we will win the fight...one person at a time. Next time you go to the range, ask yourself......"who can I bring along for their first time, today?"
 
I love letting people that are new or interested shoot my stuff. Occasionally I'll overhear people whispering about my guns or eyeballing then get shy when I offer them try them out. If you catch me at poco I'll happily let people try what I have on hand (granted I still have ammo for it that is) what's the point of owning cool crap if your going to be all stuffy and anal about it.

Ha. ^This. I've turned more than a few people at my range on to BP...it's so different from everything else being shot, it does draw attention.
 
I've had similar experiences - I've shot well over a hundred rounds through various handguns on at least 6 different occasions at their owners insistence, I recall a big smile shooting a 44mag revolver last year, and an even bigger one on my 8 year old son's face earlier this month when we were both given the opportunity to shoot some 22LR through a Ruger Single Six. Of course I tried to make it worth their while if they had any interest in shooting any of the long guns I had along, and my ammo with it, but in the majority of cases it was declined. As a result of all this generosity, my RPAL application is in Miramichi at this very moment. I too will be sure to pass it along.
