I recently received my restricted license, and have been to the range a few times, but now it's time for me to choose my firearm. I have shot many different pistols, but now that I'm in the market for one I would like to shoot the ones that interest me to compare. I know the one I buy will be with me for a very long time, if not for every. I live in southern Ontario and was wondering if there is some sort of meet that manufacturers hold to test their products. My main interests are in Walther, Glock, and HK. For those who are about to insult or promote one over the other I am not interested. I would like to shoot them for my self. If anyone knows of ranges that hold some sort of event I would love to know.

Thanks for your time

Dont know of any manufacturers demo days for restricteds. I have attended a couple of non-restricteds and optics demo days. But I can offer to take you to Oshawa Skeet and Gun Club in Port Perry/Oshawa and shoot my Walther P99 and HK USP. Let me know by PM if interested.

I don't find manufacturers do to much showng their wares in Canada going to a range is about the only option, especially if they have a store and rentals attached.

If you're near Trenton, we can help you out. We have over a dozen different pistols you can try out!

If your anywhere near kitchener ontario i can probably meet you at colby and set up to let you try a glock and a USP...don't have a current walther, but i can find a local shooter with one i'll have him meet us there too. I have one of most modern designs, or something very similar, so if there's anything else, let me know.

If your purchasing for target shooting, id suggest a 1911 is an easier gun to learn on, and in 9 is almost as labrador retriever friendly as a 22. A quality 22 like a ruger or a browning as imperative to learning to shoot well. If you absolutely hate the thought of a 22, 38 with light loads....or the aforementioned 1911 in 9mm

Whilst I agree a .22 is a great way to shoot plenty and learn fundamentals....if you're only going to get one for a while, why not a 9mm ....although I love my Gsg, I have to get my gun off with my sig or shadow......22lr doesn't do that or me...jmho

If I'm curious about any specific firearm then I watch for it at the range and then come and talk to the owner, in most cases I was offered to shoot it too. I do the same when ppl come to me and ask about my guns.

I would make one recommendation: find an indoor range/gun shop, and don't be afraid to buy used guns off them. If you are serious about a used gun they have under the glass they usually aren't shy about letting you shoot it first. That's why I like the boys at Phoenix here in Aaaadmontin - I would strike a bargain, buy a box of ammo and run a few rounds through it just to make sure she's good - and everyone's happy. I've bought a couple guns from them over the years and haven't had a stinker in the bunch. Fact is my best deer rifle came from that place too...

No such thing, but you can go to Target Sports and rent many different types of pistols, including the ones on your list.
