Pistol Penetration Test

My wife and I have been replacing the 40 year old acoustic ceiling tiles in the family room. I have a trailer on my ATV parked at the back door slowly accumulating 1200 square feet of used tiles.

The other day I was testing some little pistols in 22 Short and 22 Long Rifle and got to wondering how much less the Short performance would be.

I took some panels to the range and shot the 22 Short (a Beretta 959b) into a stack of panels. The little bullet stuck in panel 10.

For comparison, I fired a 25ACP from a little Colt. It stuck in panel 11.

Conclusion: The Short (CCI Hi Vel) has more penetration than I would have guessed.

I fired a 22 Long Rifle (CCI Mini Mag) into the stack. It passed through 19 panels and is still going....

The .22lr is often underestimated, especially from a pistol. I had a 950 in .22 short with a Pinocchio barrel. Loved the gun until I shot it. If the cut it gave my on my hand wasn't so clean I would have needed stitches. My bad for getting into it and gripping it high.

I once did some tests on 2 inch blocks of plexiglass that was going to be used in the residence of a VIP, and the lowly 22lr round succeeded in penetrating deeper that almost all other rounds.

Never underestimate a 22 lr round.

I shot a rabbit once as it was starting to leap away. Instead of a head shot hit it in the hip. The solid standard velocity bullet spun around inside it's body cavity missing almost all internal organs. Until just enuf juice to pop one of its lungs. Demised in twenty or thirty seconds. Cleanest harvest internally I ever had.
Bullets can do strange things. 22 LR solid.

You bet, I was terrified after that haha. My hands are simply wayyy too big for the 950. It's a curse since tiny guns have always been an interest of mine. I would love our laws to allow all the 12.6 class guns freedom. .22lr wouldn't be my first choice for CCW but I would never mess with a fella pointing one at me.
