Good morning,I just bought a FNX tactical and am toying with the idea of adding a red dot,I was wondering what you guys use, what do you like and what you recommend.
Quite possible, but it's painless for the most part and if it's just a range gun not the end of the world.
I just find it a bit mind blowing that they would stand behind electronic red dots for life. Leupold won't.
I have a Burris Fastfire III and it didn't survive riding the slide on my Shadow. Under Warranty but takes 3 or 4 months to get back. Vortex has a couple of new Red Dot sights coming soon and are priced in the $300-$400 range. As mentioned Vortex offers unlimited lifetime warranty. I have a Sparc 2 on my Ruger 22 pistol and it is well made. I may purchase one of the new Vortex. I prefer a small dot. My Sparc 2 is 2 moa. Don't buy a cheap Red Dot and expect it to last when mounted directly to the slide.
Vortex Razors are solid... The new Vortex Venom and Vipers look promising too... Lifetime warranty is great if you happen to get a lemon. They are generally solid.
No problems here with Burris Fastfire IIIs on an STI .45 and a Glock 17 (with Burris slide-mounts). Nice with the 8 MOA dot and a direct mount instead of the (taller & bulkier) picatinny universal mounting system. Round-count is approx. 500 .45 ACP on one sight at 700 9mm on the other, both still going strong.
