Pistol storage

Is it not advisable to just leave the pistol laying flat on its side and secured with the trigger lock inside the cabinet?

I mean is it better for the pistol if it is being stored upright with a barrel support?

That's how I store mine, but without the trigger lock: not required if it's in a safe.

But then, I only have 4 , and they fit nicely on the shelf. Come to think of it, I can squeeze another onto that shelf...

But if you have many handguns, then standing them up allows you more space.

I use these racks. The six pistol model fits nicely on the shelf side of my Stack on safe, With 4 shelves plus the bottom that half of the safe will hold 30 handguns. ( There is room to stand one gun up between the rack and the safe wall so I guess I could squeeze in 35 at max capacity)

I had 4 handguns until a couple of years ago.
I had a trigger lock for each one and rather than have to search all the drawers in the house for the trigger locks when I took the guns out to the range I stored them installed on the handguns even though the guns were kept in a 500 pound steel safe.
I guess the convenience of not having to dig through drawers for the trigger locks every time we went shooting outweighed the dubious thrill of 'sticking it to the man' by storing handguns without trigger locks installed.
I have since sold the safe and store my remaining firearms (all nr) in one of those cheap crappy tire metal safes with the trigger locks installed.
There is no definition of 'safe' in the criminal code, firearms act or regs and an attending LEO does not have to accept your assertion that your safe is indeed a safe and could charge you for storage offenses.

That last line is interesting. Does that mean if an individual has a firearm with trigger lock and stored in a 500 pound steel safe, charges can still be laid?
