Within the next year or so I would like to start training for IPSC. I say a year or so because I have a brand spanking new daughter and spare money is no longer there for now. So that being said I am slowly selling off some stuff and save the couch change.

What would some of you guys who compete suggest as a good starter pistol? I am thinking either Glock, Sig or S&W M&P.

What do you guys think?

Any of those would be fine for Production Division, which is a good place to start or stay. Also look at CZ Shadow. If you go to a league night most any IPSC shooter will let you look at/try their gun. It's a good idea to try the various choices in recoil before you cough up you money.

I started with a Glock. Then went to an STI GP6. I now am shooting a CZ Shadow...wish I had just started there!

I will try to see if any of my friends own a shadow since it appers everyone is suggesting it.

I was just on Freedom Ventures website ans noticed the GP6. It caught my eye, what can you tell me about your experiance with it?

Friends don't let friends shoot tupperware in IPSC.

As others have said I didn't start shooting IPSC with a Shadow, but I sure wish I had!

The shooter makes the gun, not the other way around. That being said the shadow sure does makes you "think" you're better than you really are!

depends where you want to play, Shadows make up the majority of production but they are not the be-all-end-all. Glocks are great and a fraction of the cost, with then money saved you can get extra ammo to learn how shoot it. If you want to shoot Classic then the SAM's and STI Spartans are great guns for the money. If you want the RollsRoyce of the game then take a look at Infinity

Lol thanks guys. I plan on getting into the production division side. One of the guys I work with used to shoot ipsc and hates the glock with all passion. He also hates the fact using reloads voids the warranty with glock.

I think you'd find that the case with most manufacturers as there is no quality control over reloads...

But they will still be willing to help you out. I got a new RSA and extractor without them evening asking any questions beyond my address and serial number.

Ok noob question I am taking BB course next month. I have only 1911's currently in 45acp. If I am reading the rule book correctly I can compete in classic and standard divisions correct? My goal is to shoot what I have better, not all that interested in where I place on the leader board for now.

cz Shadow by far! and CRAFM has one with a trigger job and all the goodies for around 1250$ around 750$ stock. it is the way to go! (i shot my Operator in ipsic for years and now have discovered the very accurate ,solid Shadow,,im never looking back. :)

Correct!

I use an M&P pro to shoot IPSC. I had to chooses between it and the CZ. The reason I chose the M&P was the pistol fit my hand better. There are many goods choices, the right one for you may not be the same as others. Shoot as many as you can and go from there...the best one is the one YOU shoot best.
