looking for the alternatives to upgrade my stock on my 8.5 grizzly.

option 1: I'm thinking of going with a hogue LOP stock, it will keep me above 26", and will also cut the weight down some.

option 2: the knoxx pistol grip stock, although has recoil reducing capabilities, there's just something wrong looking about it.cou:

option 3: Mesa tactical has a very nice piece of kit, but too pricy for me.

option 4: ATI technologies AR style stock, looks nice, but have no idea if the 9 1/4" LOP will keep me above 26", also don't know how good they are built. Anyone have one and care to chime in?

option 5: Speedfed style stock, nice, but if I was going with this stock, I'd probably pic the Hogue over it.

besides factory 870 stocks, have I left anything out? What do you have and what have you tried?

if you want something compact, light and handy then just go with a typical Speedfeed II or Hogue short LOP stock.

if you want a PG and recoil reducing properties and are willing to take the weight/bulk penalty then get a Knoxx Spec-Ops. IMO it adds too much bulk/weight/snagginess - this is a gun i am packing for emergencies, not to spend all afternoon shooting clays so personally i could care less how much it recoils.

i went with the former (not Hogue, but a cut-down Speedfeed II) and am happy with it. nice clean and compact. the main advantage of the 8.5 is that it gives you the most compact shotgun you can have with a fully functional stock. once you add a bulky Knoxx/ATI/Mesa collapsible PG stock you give up a lot of that compactness. if i didnt already have the Speedfeed laying around id have ordered a Hogue short LOP.

IMHO some people are missing the point of these little shotguns. if youre going to put a 6-round sidesaddle, Knoxx specops, 5 round Knoxx powerpak, rail mounted red dot, flashlight, etc on these guns then you are building a heavy gun - its not something youll want to be carrying around all day. if youre going to those lengths, you may as well just build it on a full-sized 18.5" shotgun and take advantage of the longer mag tube+extension, since your gun is going to weigh over 10lbs anyway and have the handling of a cinderblock.
