It is too bad that people’s optimism blinds them to the deception that is being perpetrated on them right now.
This “Compensation Program” is a fishing expedition to get people to voluntarily turn themselves in and name themselves as criminals. They need you to both feel obliged to follow the law (which is generally a good thing) and accept that you are technically a criminal now, and stand to lose your job, passport, community status, etc. if you don’t do exactly what you’re told to get yourself out of this mess that you’re in.
Striking fear into the hearts of your citizens is always wa bad thing, no government that resorted to that tactic has been a free country historically. Whether Communist Chinese, Fascist German, or Religious Dictatorship Iran, they all use clever innocuous wording for some sinister purposes.
Now we have our government telling us that we are not being strong-armed because participation in this Compensation Program is “Voluntary”. It’s Voluntary in the same way that your simple existance as a living being is Voluntary. You can always Voluntarily jump off a cliff if you get tired of being a living person.
And you have to admit that you possess newly-prohibited guns, that they may, or may not, be able to figure out you bought. And now that you’ve confessed your crimes, you could lose everything that you’ved worked your life for. They didn’t want to lose the Long Gun Registry but by creatively calling this a Compensation Program, instead of a “Assault-Style Firearm” Registry, they are creating a Registry! And they’ve already told you in no uncertain terms that there may not be any Compensation to go with this “Compensatio Program”. They must be laughing their asses off how they are using our common goodness and lawfulness against us! And our gullibility that we might get our money back.
The psychology is simple. It’s been used for millenia. You just have to create some Fear.
The creative description of the formation of a new Registry of all the formerly Non-Restricted Guns as a “Compensation Program” is fairly creative. But people will eventually figure it out. It’ll just be too late then….
I don’t imagine anyone’s still under an illusion that the “Handgun Freeze” was some sort of Pause in their ability to register them. It was way easier to believe that there is some sort of chance we’ll be able to buy handguns again by calling it a Freeze, and not what it actually was, the Handgun Ban. This one’s two parts. I’m curious what they’re going to call the Handgun Collection Phase, a Voluntary Donation????
But that’s a problem for another day….
