what other pistols out there are setup to allow for a RDS to be installed on the slide?

I know there's those abominations that let you have that cantilevered mount that attaches to a pistols lower frame rail, but I have zero interest in getting anything that looks that ugly.

I shoot for fun, no interest in competition.

thanks! :D

I love my ppq q5 with 3.5 lbs trigger and vortex venom installed :)

There's a good deal on an unfired S&W M&P9 Pro CORE on the EE :

There are adapter bases that allow RDSs to be mounted using the rear sight dovetail. Sets the sight a bit higher than on a MOS or CORE.
I have a Burris Fastfire, Wanted to try it on my M&P. See if I like using the optic on the pistol. Ordered the mount. Backordered. By the time I got it, so much time had passed that I had given up and bought a CORE and DeltaPoint.
I must say, these little optics are game changing. No more sight alignment. Just trigger control and sight picture. Almost like using a laser in low light.

Dont look in the EE for a glock Mos....
Some dude is tryna sell one for $1800...
You can buy one on gun broker for $600 Usd and add $200 to import it...said and done.

I agree on the dovetail mount vs. a proper machined slide. I find it no end of annoying if the RDS and irons don't co-witness, and the idea of removing the rear sight to mount the RDS is just anathema to me...

I found I had to be picky even when selecting a RDS to use... Some cowitness better than others. My Glock does with the RMR mounted, and it looks as though the RMR, Deltapoint and Shield (JPoint in the States) cowitness on the M&P. Every example I've seen of the Burris or Vortex sits a little too high for co-witness.

EDF339: How is the co-witness with your Venom on the PPQ? Now that I look at the pics, it seems as though your q5 has no rear sight. Is it hidden on there?!

EDIT: just looked at the threads some dealers posted about the Q5... Looks as though the rear sight is mounted on the plate you remove to mount the RDS. Takes that one out of contention for me!!! Too bad, because I love my PPQ M1 Navy!

To clarify - by co-witness, you mean that the irons and the RD are simultaneously aligned with the aiming mark?
If so, I absolutely do not want co-witness. I want the dot to be clear and floating alone in the field of view. On the CORE, the irons can be viewed through the DP, and are there as backup.
If I shift around, I can confirm that the dot and irons are zeroed at the same range. But other than that, I do not see the irons in the right picture, nor do I want to.

On my non-optic PRO, I have installed good adjustable Dawson sights.

First optic sighted pistol I tried was a G34 mos with RMR, triangular recticle, fibre optic illumination. Outstanding combination.

Interesting.... I find I work best with the red dot absolutely co-witnessed my my iron sights on my Glock. I have both eyes open when I use my RDS, and basically don't even notice the iron sights. The Bindon Aiming Concept applies and I see both the dot and my target clearly.

If I slow down and close my left (non-dominant) eye I see the irons clearly... My red dot is basically riding right atop my front blade sight where my six o'clock hold is.

Maybe it's just easier for me to operate that way as I am a RDS carbine guy who converted to RDS on pistol and not a hardcore iron-sights pistol guy trying to adjust to a RDS on the pistol?!?

Guess that why they say YMMV!

i went with the S&W Pro Core because it co-witnesses with the irons perfectly.
went with the Lewwy Delta Point with the big dot because im getting old and blind.

to be honest i have yet to see another pistol and optic ever at the range.
guess its not a big thing in my neck of the woods.
(center fire pistol, lots of 22 pistols with mini red dots)
