The closest one I can think of is the Remington rolling block pistol, this is an original gun in .50 Navy, a very short .50 Cal., single shot antique pistol which requires no registering or papers or anything, I've made bullets for them and some members on here have one. They usually go for $1200 and up as they are a really nice old gun, and draw a premium here because of their "antique" status. Sharps did make some single shot pistols, with the Sharps falling block action, but one would need to apply for a mortgage for one. Uberti is making a copy of the Remington Rolling Block Pistol, but it is restricted and in .45 Colt.......shoot straight!....Ben
I think the question that Mackillan is asking is more one of what pistols were available in the mid 1870's, and/or would have been carried by buffalo hunters, and further are they made today as replicas.
Within that context, there are several heavy caliber pistols to chose from and I think that replicas of Colt's are the only ones currently readily available and are made by several companies. Other designs may be available but are probably difficult to locate.

This is the rolling block pistol Ben is talking about - Remington model 1871 (they also had previous models with spur triggers)
Ben - did the payment for the bullets arrive safe and sound? My dies shipped out from the States last weekend, so I should be able to let you know how they shoot in the next couple weeks.

I have a 1871 Rolling block as well. It was reamed (way back then) to except the 50 70 Cartridge.
I have read that buffalo hunters wanted a pistol that could use the same ammo as there Rifles so being as 50 cal Remington pistol ammo was hard to come by they made the 1871s shoot the 50 70.
Works great to but kicks in the hand like a mule!
Mine has a Brand new 10 inch Barrel but is still in 50 70.

Yup Killer i got the dough..thanks...you'll have to let us know how it shoots....a 260gr. .50 Cal. bullet is almost as wide as it is long, a fellow here is using them but with smokeless?????? Trailboss, I think, but I'd want the "Boom" of real B.P.
