I have a pre owned 6.5x55 on a 98 action. There is a pit line mark about a 1/8th " in the bolt face to one side of the firing pin hole( does not touch the hole).
This rifle will not handle published Max loads. Is this mark caused buy primer failure? Any concerns? Thanks

A circular line of pitting around the firing pin hole is normal with a rifle that's seen lots of usage. Comes from high pressure gasses bleeding back past the primer, acting like a little cutting torch. There's no way to avoid this if you plan on shooting a lot.

Ruptured primer, due to primer failure caused by faulty primer or too hot of a load, possibly caused by a file by bubba smith working on the firing pin... could be many things. Ask the previous owner possible?

Pics would help though
