I was wondering is there and difference between a takedown pin and a pivot pin on an AR-15? Also is the diameter on both these pins .250" for non-Colt rifles? Reason I am asking is I was getting some parts together for a AR-15 and Questar has KNS precsion push putton pivot pins in .250" and .315". (Tried to post this question in their forum but was not allowed is this normal?). Went to the KNS precsion site and they have seperate push button pivot and takedown pins listed on their site (both are .250" and there is a .315" pivot pin i am assuming for colt rifles). Will I be able to to use the KNS push button pivot pin listed on questar's site as a takedown pin also? is there some reason why this wouldn't be recommended?

Thank you all for your help.:)

They are not necessary.

Save your money, use the ones that come in the standard lower parts kit.

Don't waste your money on the KNS anti-walk pins either.

Alternatively, it's your money, buy whatever you want.

I know I know.... but i have been eyeing them for a while and yer probably going to hate me for this but.... i already bought the KNS anti-walk pins....

I dont think the take down pins are worth while as its easy to trim a couple coils off the springs and make them easier to use. Anyway, I think your looking for the .250"

Some people say that when running FA, Suppressed, or running hundreds of thousands of rounds through a rimfire conversion that the trigger/hammer pin holes can become elongated without such anti-walk pins.

I've seen uppers where that looks like its starting to happen after 100k+ rounds.... But for any of my uppers that last that long, i will have replaced the entire LPK at least once or twice... so the cost of a $200-300 lower i dont really mind.

If i had a registered FA MG i might do anything i could to possibly protect the lower.. Hell if I had a registered "Assault Weapon" in CA, I would still try to do anything i could to protect it.

But, I digress...

That said, I do run KNS pins on my 80% lowers. If its true it helps, maybe I'll get more life out of them and will be able to pass them onto my kids someday. Still...

The takedown and pivot pins are not the same. The takedown pin is longer, for one, and the heads are different shapes, for another.

Thanks BattleRife I bought two of them already cuz there were only two left and I panicked.... No biggy however I will just put one of them in my norinco.

I actually like the push pins. It's one of the things that my Swiss arms has that I wish my AR rifles came with. That being said, there are other things I would rather spend money on.
