has anyone given one of these a go ?
how are they ?

the battery life is rubbish compared to american made optics, but a crisp 1.5moa dot for a fraction of the price that a 2moa aimpoint goes for.. cant really complain ..

EDIT: i put this here instead of optics because its basically a dedicated red-rifle optic

I'm probably going to get one for my CSA 11.75" carbine. Just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I've heard nothing but good about them. You just have to get used to it sitting off centre from the barrel.

Kobra is good to go, but hard to find. PK-AS is good too, and it has hard etched reticle, so they work without batteries.

I would go with a PK-AS over a PK-A, or go for a Kobra if you can find one.

I just traded my trs25 for a pk-a. I have a molot side rail in the mail, so I don't have a range report yet. Comparatively speaking though, the 1.5moa dot is extremely crisp, the sight is, as you can imagine heavier, but it is lighter than I anticipated, and nothing over the top. The sight seems extremely rugged and everything has a nice solid feel (dials and switches). The brightness only has 8 settings, but it seems just as effective as the trs and is plenty bright in daytime. The brightness dial goes from off, to a high setting, then through the dim to bright steps, then back to off at the furthest point, it seems very practical. The finger adjustable turrets are a big plus, and the quick release mount is also extremely handy (the ability to swap optics with no tools and little time means alot to me on a rifle that is stripped down in a similar fashion) the removable sunshades is also a nice touch. Another factor I'm a big fan on is the fact that the lenses are set back into the body (protected from branches and debris is trekking through the bush). I also have a posp on the way, so it should be a nice setup as a whole.

My main reason for switching to the pk-a an posp is the QR mounts, the ability to still use strippers, the crisper dot (and a full size scope with the ability to interchange in 5 seconds with zero being retained), the ability to use the original iron sights (on the SKS vs. A scout mount), it's obviously a proven optic platform, and most importantly it just suits the rifle so well, it looks proportioned, traditionally military, and authentically Russian :)

well after reading literally 100 bad reviews about Kalinka and their service, i think i might just use my Ultimak mount and drop a red dot on co-witness and leave it at that

I bought my PK-A's and PK-AS's from eastwave canada (good service). The PK-A is a lot more easier to zero and adjust than the pk-as. But the PK-AS is more modern issue/design.

All the PK-A's that I've seen were slightly offset to the left. The PK-AS's were avialable in a traditional offset mount, and an "above the bore" mount. The above bore mount was only compatible with AK rails, however. Although I made mine work by altering the rail with a file/dremal tool.

Like all dot sights, they're great for short range stuff. In retrospect, I'd balance out my sights with something offering some magnification so I can better evaluate my groups.

I ordered a mount for my wildcat from them. It had rusted a wee bit, and each and every screw on the mount stripped.

They told me that they would give me a discount in the future if I purchased from them in the future.
This made me mad because the mount had rusted prior to delivery, which caused the unique sized metric screws to strip - and they did nothing to help me.

the PK-AS is probably the ugliest optic around.. i cant bring myself to use it.

im going with Tech Sights for my AK .. so a side mount optic will unfortunately, be out of the question ( rear tech sight post sits too high to install side mount optics )

so if i do go for a scope of some description, it will have to be a scout scope mounted on the ultimak rail
