"Plain Jane" M1911A1's

Jes' to git the purists all riled up... :dancingbanana: My 1911A1...

Actually, as a "purist" seeing an older custom done on a USGI 1911A-1 doesn't particularly rile me up, anymore... It's happened to many hundreds of USGI pistols. Once upon a time original USGI 1911A-1 .45's weren't worth the money they are now. In fact they were cheap! So, they were used as platforms for custom mods & assorted bubba-jobs. [Yours appears to be the former. BTW, nice pistol ;) ].

Anyway, the fact that hundreds were modified just makes the current original ones worth more money... :p But if one was to take an original today & bubba it - yeah, as a "purist", that would rile me up...

Thanks for the compliment NAA. :) The local smith that originally took the pistol as a trade in said he didn't know who did the work on it, but that "it was done right". I believe it was setup for some sort of NRA bullseye cuz the original spring in it was really light. Very nice gun, very accurate (but then again, .45 ACP is naturally more accurate than any wonder-nine, IMHO).

And about unaltered 1911(A1)'s, I agree wholeheartedly... not only are they getting scarce (like MOST milsurps, I remember when International Firearms in Montreal was selling Webleys, Enfield revolvers and Enfield No. 4 Mk1's, all for $29.95 each... in '74. Too young to buy at that time, however I KEPT that copy of "The Gunrunner"), but "Flags of our Fathers", the Clint Eastwood movie, will undoubtedly cause another rush for milsurps of all flavors, Garands, M1 Carbines, and 1911s. Just watch how prices sky rocket in the US. Not that it affects us here very much, but still interesting to see.

Trivia time... check out the price on the Liberator pistol, prices for which have gone thru the roof in recent years. Late 1974 issue of "The Gunrunner":
