I'm looking for an m1 carbine and a guy has a Plainfield forsale, are they good carbines? Any issues a guy should be aware of?

When it comes to getting a commercial manufactured Carbine, Plainfield is the best bet. The only catch is they are usually restricted due to barrel length.

I have worked on 5 or 6 Plainfields, and 2 of them had soft receivers, They were well below the MIL SPEC of Rockwell C 38-45. Trouble is, one can't tell unless you have a Rockwell hardness tester. Better to go with an Iver-Johnson, or even a Gen I Universal (the one with mostly USGI parts) if you want a commercial model. I have had no experience with the new A-O's, but others have made comments in this forum about them.

Better still, pay the extra $$ and get a USGI. They are within specs.

Thanks man! This one has been re barreled to be non restricted, has RCMP letter stating it is. Is there anything I should look for tang would tell me no go on this?

Picked the rifle up, great package deal including ammo and dies. Took it to the range fired 100 rounds only 2 stoppages. Surprising accurate for what it is. I would say overal I'm camping happy on this deal!

Consider putting a Wolff spring kit in it. Have you been able to determine it's vintage?
