Hi

Planning my next F/TR 308win build (does this ever stop ?). It will have a Fierce single shot action, my B7 barrel currently on my rifle, my own stock, and of course the Mystic Precision's Mpod.

I work for Nutech and I personally know all the workers there who works on the action and bolt parts, and I know that all those parts are high quality. The barrel maker is from Quebec also, and a sponsor of PQRA.

When I look at F-class rifle on the internet, most of them (if not all) have polished or stainless barrel. Other than the heat issue associated with a black barrel, is there any other reason why I should not go this way ? I could have the barrel and action cerakoted black and the black stock, that would look nice.

Other option is keep the stainless action "naked" and have the polished barrel.

Any opinion on this ?

Thanks

That PGW build you just posted on has a bead blasted barrel and action that PGW did in their shop. Just wanted to let you know as a possible other option. The one I own is identical type build except green stock with a bead blasted spiral fluted barrel.

My new .223 build will have the barrel cerakoted black. I see nothing wrong with it being stainless either. I just wanted this one to match everything else on the rifle. To each their own.

I think you'll find that most competitors keep the barrels unfinished due to simplicity. There is no need to coat the stainless steel from a corrosion standpoint nor from a concealment standpoint. Last ... it's an added cost/time detail and when you're changing barrels each year or two, there's not much reason to coat a F-Class rifle barrel. I prefer the bead blasted finish myself.
