Plastic guide rod fail smith and wesson sd9

I am looking at purchasing a smith and wesson sd9 i was reading reviews and the mentioned that the was a plastic guide rod, i couldn't belive what is was reading PLASTIC GUIDE ROD? do these fail? what other guns would have a plastic guide rod?, has anyone had any problems with these and insight would me much appreciated thanks

Why would a plastic guide rod fail?? Its only job is to help stop the spring from kinking when it compresses. Almost every modern semi-auto has a plastic guide rod. As mentioned, it is really a non-issue.
 
Beretta 92, Glock, and a few others use plastic guiderods. You can replace it with aftermarket steel one for $20 if it bothers you that much
