I have only one stainless synthetic centerfire. I do almost all of my hunting with my wood and blued pre-64 Model 70's but if it starts to really rain or snow I switch to the synthetic which comes on all the hunts for this purpose. That said my wood and blued rifles have seen a lot of hunting and weather but are none the worse for the wear really. I haven't found it difficult at all to keep them in very nice shape and I've never experienced shifting point of aim. I also would say that I don't mind the minimal extra weight, it often seems to enhance the balance/shootability of the rifle. Just my opinion.
 
I am more interested in getting out and actually putting a firearm to good use while hunting. I know very few people who actually understand how to hunt effectively. The rifle choice is meaningless.

Agreed, but for my liking and use, I want it not only to function reliably as a tool, I also want the visual appreciation. While stainless and plastic may best serve the purpose in a work or military environment, it doesn't offer the same visual appreciation of blued steel and nicely figured wood.
 
Keep in mind a large portion of wood rifles being used in hunting in Canada were once military issue. :D

Plastic does not mean Military...it just means more weather resistant, lighter, and dent resistant.
 
Two rifles built and designed by the same maker. Both similar yet obviously different. Both meant to be used in the hunting fields and both likely to provide a lifetime a uninterrupted hunting service.

I am with the OP on this one, I have not seen a manufacture to date that has put a nice synthetic stock on a mainstream rifle. I have owned both synthetic and walnut guns for hunting. I have sold all the synthetic guns because it just left a bad feeling in the back of my mind and I hated the way they felt.

I have decided that I am a traditionalist at heart, so much so that I just bought a brand spankin new Remington 870 Wingmaster 12g for my dedicated waterfowl gun. Now, when I pull that bad boy outta the cabinet 40 years from now I will be proud to give it to my grandkids!!! I don't think I would feel the same way about a synthetic stocked gun. I love the history and stories behind the "battle scars" on wood guns. I am not a retard I can look after a walnut stocked gun just fine thank you very much...

Gatehouse, My dog would have no adverse effects upon that type of rifle. It would be just fine to lean against a tree in camp.
 
My bias opinion is as follows and I know that Noel will back me up on this......

If you own a rifle with a Tupperware stock you probably like cats too. And your nanna probably runs away from you for fear that you'll steal her pension money.
Thus I am implying that you sir have been emasculated to the point where you likely squat when you pee.

Those of us who prefer walnut, know how to maintain wood

And those of us who lean towards synthetics never have to worry about maintaining wood, we know it will be functional in even the nastiest situations.:eek:


(for the record, i have used synthetic stocked rifles to shoot cats, my Nana loves me, and I have been known to step out of my truck and piss in a parking lot, simply because i am a man and thats what i am designed to do)
