I figure that this stuff would be really good for shotgun clamps, which always end up scratching or wearing the barrel. I'm not surprised to see it fail where the holster rubbed against it.

That's possibly a good idea! I didn't check to see how it reacted to gun cleaning agents however.

I wouldn't use it on a gun, as you see, it doesn't wear very well on certain applications. I did my truck rims with it and so far they are standing up ok, but I wouldn't be surprised if they start peeling by the end of the winter.
