Plate carrier options

There is no requirement for soft body armour or plates (ceramic/steel) levels II-IV, for any CQB matches I've attended in Ontario or Quebec. While DND and law enforcement may mandate use of service body armour during range and training periods, civilian matches have no such requirement.

There are multiple plate carrier options available via e-Bay USA, including ex-US military issue items. Depends on how much you are willing to spend and whether you already have the plates...

Lots of choices out there Jake. The plate carrier or chest rig setups are available in a lot of styles and price ranges. True plate carriers are the most expensive plus the cost of plates if you want to run them. I'd look at what the sponsors offer - DS Tactical, S&J Hardware and others offer a lot of choice. I'm using the Mayflower APC with HSGI tacos.

I use the Shellback Tactical Banshee for a plate carrier. I like the removable cummerbund feature. Pretty similar to Barney's Grey Ghost.
I'd recommend the use of a chest rig or vest over a plate carrier. Most plate carriers need plates to fit properly and not be all weird and saggy. This means extra kilos that you get to carry. Not necessarily a bad thing just soemthing to keep in mind.

Thanks for all the great replies everyone! Lots of information to seek out there now. After doing a little research and taking into account your opinions. Seems like a chest rig/battle belt setup would be a little more well suited to what in looking for.

now we're talking!
For a chest rig I'd recommend the Tactical Tailor MAV or the HSGI Chest rig. Both are good customizable molle options. Both are well made. The MAV has more real estate.
As for belts; your choices are end less. Duty belt, competition style belt, or battle belt. All will work the same. A duty or competition style belt should have a Velcro inner belt (for your pants) and the outer belt (where you gear is attached) should be stiff. For Battle belts again I recommend HSGI, though the 5.11 brokos belt is a decent quality lower cost option.

There is no reason why CQB can't be shot using just a duty style belt. Or even less "tactical" gear. See Ganderite's magazine bib/bandoleer for example. It works just fine and hold all his mags.
The belt is the fast place to get a mag for a reload, the chest rig will be slower.

Will be using my new Mayflower APC just waiting for it to come home, will use with my D3CR chest rig. Integrates perfectly

Good point I have the "Eggroll" aka Extreme Gear Labs conversion kit for the Stranghogg to use the DC3R rig, great kit, and a excellent option!
