I'm thinking about getting into service rifle and CQB (more so CQB). Just curious what the pros and cons are for a plate carrier setup and a duty belt setup?

Its a lot of trial and error.

Personnaly I use a plate carrier w/plate because I work with it so it doubles up as extra training with some fun. I also prefer the weight distribution of a plate carrier versus a belt and having everything hanging around the waist.

How long do you have to wear a set of plates, before they stop being an awkward, uncomfortable P.I.T.A?

Depends of people honestly

I have seen and heard people complaining about their plates for 9 months straight... I personnaly dont mind them. The more you wear them the more you get used to it I guess.

I'm a chest-rig-plate-carrier-fan myself, again like DT741 I regularly wear a carrier so it's just good practice, and not in the way, much comfier when laying prone. Plus I had a spare or two laying around. I do however prefer still having my pistol mags on my belt, but again that's where they are normally and and I get confused easily ;)

You can always get a rig without the carrier or plate setup, like a load bearing vest or something. I found it was nice having the weight of the vest securing the chest rig because I like my rifle mags in tight when i'm running around and don't like it when I pull the whole rig to my chin extracting my next mag. very distracting...

I go with drop leg when shooting CQB make modified prone shooting more comfortable. Otherwise I'll use a belt mount. Other than for cqb it's a matter of preference. Although drop leg looks more operator-ey . lol. Unfortunately all the events I participate in do not allow cross-draw holster use.

With a battle belt, use a drop off set or drop leg. The belt can be shifted for mod prone if needed when using a belt mount.

Edit: I just checked and yeah the drop offset on the Battle belt works fine for me in mod prone. I just roll my hips a bit and my weight moves forward of the holster. It sort of is wedged under me at 45 degrees. I'm not laying on it directly.

I wear a plate carrier with HSGI pouches and a Gun fighter belt.

Granted this was mainly for Airsoft but I went 3 double M4 pouches across the stomach, Grenade pouch on the top left center, utility ouch on the left side, extra grenade pouch on the back shoulder (stacking up) and a camelbak. On the belt I would go pistol in a lvl3 Safari, on the back a dump pouch, left side 3 m4/pistol mag stackers. And a flashlight back side off the dump.

The main point is super easy when prone to grab the offside mags off your belt, still able to grab off the stomac if really pressed and a 100% clean right side to draw the pistol in any position with no sweep.

Alright start your laughing at the Airsoft but it works and even though your not in live fire nothing puts the mag change pressure on as another person taking shots at you. I also wear full plates, full team wendy helmet and Arc'tyrc combat pants and shirt, if it's cold I tuck my soft shell jacket into my belt and it works no problem.

Good luck!
