So doing some reading about plated bullets.
I find it’s recommended to stay below 1250fps for thin plated and 1500 for thicker plated bullets.
I am just dipping my toes into loading for a 45colt rilfe
It’s a 45Colt/410 survivor so a little out of the norm.
Not sure how you want to measure barrel length as the chamber is cut long for 410 shells and the choke at the end is removed for 45 colt shots.
The rifled portion of the barrel is 14” anyway.
I have 250g campro copper plated bullets and did a few test loads of 20.0g IMR 4227
From what I see I’m my manuals and online this should put me in the 1200fps range.
(No I don’t have a Crony)
Just shot 5 rounds. Recoil was super soft. Felt less then a 410 for sure
The primer looks like it’s at very low pressure.
I did not crimp the round. Because I have read then I will damage the copper plating. And being a single shot I’m not concerned with set back issues.
Now I’ve also read lots of reports of guys running plates bullets into the 1500-1600fps range claiming no issues.
Looking for opinions and advice.
