Plated bullets at high velocity?

Hi to all

I am running low on .44 lead and time to order more. I shoot moderate loads out of my 629 and hotter loads out of my 77/44. My question is how fast can I push a plated bullet, and more to the point,

1/ What is the max speed a plated bullet will stay together at,

2/ Has anyone ever heard of a plated bullet separating in the barrel? (Leaving the plating behind like a jacket)

Depends on the thickness of the plating, and your loading techniques. Thicker the plating, the faster you can shoot them.
If you roll crimp and cut through the plating, then you will have issues regardless of the thickness.

Berrys is good to 1250 as per their website.

Never had an issue with separation. Never seen it actually. Using campros at ~1400fps through a desert eagle. You can push a 44 bullet faster then that with your rifle, but I doubt it'll separate even around 1800fps. Others who are more experienced with 44 rifles can chime in, but the usual complaint about campros in rifles is their accuracy.

With the 629 you'll blow up your gun before you separate a bullet.

No experience with the .44 per se, but I have run the Campro 124gr 9mm up into the mid-high 1400fps range in a carbine with no issue.

I'm shooting Campro bullets at just under 1500 fps out of my Rossi carbines in .357 and .44. No problems so far, but I'd like to shoot he .44 at 1600-1700 FPS so will watch this thread with interest!

If I go past 1400 or so, my Camaro 44's come apart. I now only load cam pros fairly light. (20" barrel)
