Plated Vs FMJ

So I am about to order my first batch of components to start reloading got all the equipment now looking for the actual product..

Just trying to figure out if I missed something about plated vs FMJ. So 1000 FMJ is about 30 bucks more.

Is all I am really going to get from this is to be able to push the FMJ into higher velocities?

They will either be Berry plated or BDX FMJ.

No interest in pushing the higher velocities just reloading for fun and to allow me to shoot more for the same.

+1 on the plated. Cheaper than jacketed & less dirty than straight lead. Especially if you are loading moderate velocity loads. I am using Berry's and they are very consistent and accurate.
 
Full metal jacket are usually more uniform and have thicker jacket. Better accuracy but comes with higher price.
Plated like CamPro or Berry are plenty for plinking and shooting action type sports.
 
I have nothing but good things to say about the BDX FMJ...

I have pushed them extremely hard thru both 9mm and 10mm (.40cal) with most excellent results!

I use plated as well but just be aware that when you use the seating/crimping die you can crease or indent the round easier than with an FMJ.

Load up a dummy round or 2 to make sure you have the proper dimensions if you are switching projectiles.
 
Berrys is good enough for practice. As said plating is thin so be sure casing is adequately flare, bullet is straight before seating or the dreaded crease/indent.
 
I was pleasantly surprised with the Berry's plated. But as was already stated, make sure you flare your case mouths enough, I actually peeled the plating from the bass of the first bullet I seated.
 
I shoot the Berrys 124 gr. hollow base RN bullet exclusively in my 9 mm loads,they are the new thick plated bullet that can be fired up to 1450 fps. The hollow base bullet gives more bearing surface for better accuracy as well as allowing you to load the bullet out longer.

I'm an old revolver guy and haven't been shooting semi's all that long but I have excellent results with the Berry's bullets and Power Pistol in my 9 mm.

I prefer the uniformity of a FMJ projectile.
 
I use the plated Berrys 124gr HBRN for my 9mm pistol loads and for some of my carbine. As I plan to do some hunting with my sub2000 I use JHP like Speer Gold Dots and Hornady XTP. As said above, the triple plated berrys are good to 1450 fps so any load you use will be good to go and the accuracy is better than the regular 124gr RN for me. I have loaded thousands of Berrys and never had a problem
