I recently completely disassembled my SKS following svt1940's guide to a tee with no issues. I purchased the rifle off of the EE and wanted to give it a thorough cleaning prior to shooting it. After reassembling I noticed that if you hold the barrel with one hand and the small of the stock with the other and pull there's a bit of play in the stock. I doubt this is from me taking it apart, but it just happens to be when I noticed it. I opened up the mag and looked at the play through the mag well and there's about 1/16" movement at the cross bolt. I know it's a 60 year old surplus rifle with a refurb'd stock so I'm not surprised, but is this anything to be concerned about?

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Pretty standard for an SKS to have 1/16" to 1/8" play back and forth like that. I have a non-refurb all # matching that has about 1/16" play.

Just shim it to take the play out of it. This actually will assist in accuracy with the SKS. Groups should improve doing this. Some coats of Polyurethane finish inside the stock will tighten it up.
