Recently i took interest in acquiring a 4.5 mm Baikal MP-654K pellet gun. I had one few years ago and have missed the quality of it. Was a lot of fun to shoot as well. Soon realized that they are no longer imported due to some idiotic finding by ATF and RCMP that it can be converted to real firearm. I am still searching for another one so see my add...
Since i do have an MP-71 counterpart in .380 i decided to compare the two... and post my findings. So here it goes to the dumbass LE who thinks this can be done. ..Believe me i heard local cop say it... DUH.
This BB gun only resembles a firearm on the outside and few parts inside and outside are actually interchangeable.

Major differences are here.
Original slide is completely different internally with exception of safety button and rear sight. Can not be converted to load a live round. as it is machined out inside...
Replacing the slide will not make this gun work in any way and it is impossible to install as well as the fact that it is not available for purchase,
On to the photo
Red line: Part of frame where barrel is mounted has been machined undersize in a way that any other size barrel will not fit. such attempt will break the frame.First major change.
Green line: Ejector is not there. has been cut. Not as important but.. try to get the part.. not available
Purple line: Is not east to see here but it has been machined thinner so original slide will not fit. Second of the two major changes.
Blue line: The hammer has been machined in such way that will not hit the firing pin. Part can be reworked or replaced but not easy in any way.

So there you have it. For anyone interested... don't try this at home LOL.

I swear, some non-shooter looks at pics of the replica and the real deal and if they look alike, that's good enough for them to make them prohibited. Yesh!

Stupid isn't it? I actually heard local cop say " check that gun...sometimes they drill them out to a .22" idiot knows nothing about guns. Its simply impossible to do something like this. Look at youtube lots of ideas for illegal stuff and easier. nobody would even bother trying? just ban import of a Quality bb gun cause it looks real. RCMP did it cause ATF said all this crap I read somewhere... I love the freedom in Canada (Yeah right...)

I think the "official real reason" they were banned might have something to do with the high volume CO2 valves available online, which it is claimed will put the copper clad BBs down the spout at over 750 fps with a fresh cylinder and generate a whopping 9 Joules (what is that, a gentle push?). Newtons, Joules... where are my foot pounds?

Yeah, with a machine shop, a welder, and an engineering background, you could probably convert these to a real gun. It would only be slightly more work than, as you say, making a SIG P228 copy from scratch using the free on-line CNC plans.

My Makarov also fails to fit, though the high-cap (10 round) mags do fit, and will hold the slide open. There are also two slightly different versions of this pistol, you have the earlier (more steel) version. Both work just fine as BB guns though!

I believe the frame is also weakened on BB pistol...cabelas offering Makarov BB not sure if it's made by Umarex but definitely not Russian. Don't know how it looks internally. ht tp://www.cabelas.ca/index.cfm?pageID=71&section=1279&section2=1453&ID=24278

most likely umarex. Junk in comparison to the baikal but still decent bb gun. You cant fit a real magazine in it. the grip is solid with provision for a co2 capsule and separate bb mag.
