Playing with a Cooey - do you think this will work?

are chokes a special thread pattern? or could you perhaps pick up some used thread in chokes off the ee for cheap then just order in a tap and tap the barrel yourself?

So a quick update. The shotgun has been patterned at 10 and 20 yards with no modifications. (factory full choke measured at 0.593") It produced 12" and 28" patterns respectively.

The choke was then removed via hacksaw, the barrel was filed back to square, and it was re-patterned at the same distances. (bore measured at 0.608") This time it produced 16" and 40"+ patterns.

As it is, it'll probably work just fine for grouse for now as the leaves are mostly still on the trees. But once they fall and once I start to get after the rabbits, I'm thinking somewhere in the 14"/35" at the respective distances is what I'll want. (I'm figuring that 0.600" will probably do the trick)

I'm setting up to do the forced taper choke at 25". That way, I'll still have a full inch to remove while keeping the over all length of the barrel at 24". This was my target length to begin with so if worse comes to worse, I'll install choke tubes at that length or just leave it cylinder bore. I'm hoping my plan works though which will give me a fixed modified choke at the 25" mark.

Video is being recorded and will be available once the project is completed. :)

Cooey chokes are swaged they are not machined to the dimensions of the bore like real shotgun chokes . so reaming out the choke will not work you were closer to getting the resulsts you want by cutting the 1/4'' off at a time. . the us made wichester model 37 had machined chokes and are a good buy when you can find them.
