I am Gerry. A contractor from Ottawa and I just recently got my non restricted pal so I can go to the range.

Bought my first gun yesterday. An SKS soviet from 1951.

Is that a good vintage?

Welcome to CGN Gerry. Very little difference in the different year SKS's except maybe the firing pin return spring in the '49 and '50. Good first choice for a centerfire rifle. Lots of surplus ammo available. Check out the forums for tips and a load of opinions.

Yeah the ammo was one reason I wanted it. Just a little more expensive than 22 cartridges. Who knew the USSR made so many bullets eh? Lol

I can't wait to take it apart. I'll look to see if I can identify the difference between the pin on my gun vs a 49 from google.
