Please answer a Glock 17 gen 5 MOS question for me.

I sold my previous Glock in order to purchase the g17 gen5 MOS. I saw it online and was set to go. When I went in store, the gen 5 had what previous gen 5s had - that grip cut out. Say what you will, but I bloody hate it and so does my pinky.

From everything I saw online, they did not have one. Then a GTA-area dealer told me that the Austrian ones didn't have a cut out, but that the US made ones did. The only ones I could find in stores were the US ones, and when I called some other dealers on this forum, they said that the Austrian ones and the US ones were exactly the same...? I left it at that, and just the other day, someone beat to me one that was posted on the EE. I didn't see any US markings...and I didn't see a cut out, which led me to believe the GTA dealers were correct.

I am on the hunt for one without a cut out (Austrian or not), so, can anyone definitively tell me if the Austrian ones have a solid grip while the US ones don't, or was it just a limited run to start off with?

Thanks!

From what I have seen, the models with the front serrations, at least on the 34s, don’t have the cut out.

You're correct in saying that the photos are showing no cut outs. However, when I've emailed to confirmed with the dealers showing grips with no cut outs, the answer I get is that yes, the ones they have have cut outs....thankfully checked otherwise I'd been in for an unpleasant surprise, not to mention that the photos are misleading. Just trying to get to the bottom of what is going on here.

The front serration MOS models do not have the grip cutout.

They sure do - I held one in my hand at Tenda and Al Flaherty's. This is the issue - photos show they don't but when you inquire, every response I had was that the models they have are with a cut out.

Just received this reply from a CGN sponsoring dealer:

It is a US made unit. There is nothing coming out of Austria at the moment besides the Glock 48. As for the grip it is cut out. They have switched over to the new no cut out but unfortunately nothing has made it to Canada yet. They are still selling through their cut out frames with no indication on when we will see the no cut out frames. They jumped the gun on changing all the images and announcing the changes but have not delivered any at this time. Sorry about that.#

Explains the discrepancy between photo and reality.

You're making me cry Dan! Someone beat me to your pistol - so sad.

I've emailed any one that I thought would carry it and everyone only has the cut out version. Maybe the original ones were Austrian versions, then theunswitch to US made ones with the cut out, and then they will eventually phase the non-cut out version as suggested by the photos....? So frustrating.

I responded to your email, to be clear Glock is not planning to ship in any version of the pistol without the front grip cutout. All their imports of the Glock 17 Gen5 MOS will be USA production with the front grip cutout to allow jammed magazines to be cleared in competition scenarios.

The photos we have on our site (and chances are the ones most of our competitors have) are provided to us by Glock themselves, and the concerns about the accuracy of the photos has been forwarded directly to the head of distribution for the East Coast of North America as it puts ourselves and other dealers in an awkward position.

I'm about to go take one of the in stock pistols upstairs to photograph.

edit: new photos below & a quote from Glock's official Canadian rep

"Yes there may be a difference in the model show on our US web site and the models shipped to CANADA. Frankly the cut out is a small concern to many but to those who don’t like it it appears to be a big issue. The cut out was always part of the original GLOCK design to facilitate removal of the magazine quickly. There are aftermarket solutions and we will soon be releasing an extended magazine funnel which may solve the concern."

My Gen 5 17 MOS FS has no cutout.
Hoping to find a 34 MOS without it now.

With Glock it's always a bit funny on their distribution. When a model first hits the market usually all the of the USA production is tied up in the USA market, so to get a bit of supply to the stores in Canada they ship in a limited number of the Austrian guns until production ramps up in the USA to meet the demand. So occasionally you'll see variants with the European features but as soon as Glock has everything nailed down you can assume the guns are from their standard USA production.

Generally with a new model coming in there's only a week or two that the Austrian variants are on the market before they get snatched up.

If you look at our photo for the Glock 34 MOS Gen5 from our site you'll notice it does have the cut-out just like the currently stocked G17 models on the market.

Sorry again jric,

I had to be fair with all respondents.
The first one on the list took it.

Production change over controversial feature like this is pretty stupid IMHO. Here i was thinking Glock finally fixed it but hey guess not. Why buy Glock and have to compromise at the price point when other manufacturer offert product that i wont have to buy aftermarket baseplate to fix what they wont do at the factory. Thanks for all you did to make me happy with my purchase, can’t say enough good about you guy thanks again
