Yes and I was wondering if there was an aftermarket conversion that I could use to go to 5/8x24 but since the us one is apparently different I figured that someone would know where I could start or just buy the tap and die and do it myself

Yes, SEI has an adapter. Part # 2002, board sponsor Armtac carries them for $105 CDN. Once on, you can use any standard 5/8x24 tpi based flash hider, brake or compensator available.

Rather than just a simple thread adapter, it is essentially a complete a flash hider using the existing castle nut that has a 5/8-24 thread instead of prongs, not just a male/female thing if it helps you sleep better!

Unless you have access to an EDM, $100 is well worth it. It's not a threaded adapter, but aligns with splines in place of a flash suppressor or brake. Its hard chro-moly as well. I'm a machinist too and would gladly pay for it.
