Very nice, look almost new in box. Lumber looks original but gloss finnish givs it a Jap. look. Most A5's were oil rubbed. Would draw a bit of attention south of the border IMO.

Looked really nice, but the stock had the incorrect checkering pattern for a 1960 Belgian A5. Somewhere along the line, looks like a Japan build stock replaced the original. I'd still have been happy to own it though.

There were no round knob Jap Stocks Square knob stocks came about in 65-66. Jap Guns 76

Oh yes there were. My Japan built A5 has a round knob stock and it was bought NIB. My old Browning catalogs show many years where the Miroku built guns came with round knob stocks. A newer A5 stock would easily fit onto the older Belgian guns, as they have the same dimensions.

Strange to have butt stock swapped out. Fore ends tend to dry out and split if not cared for properly...so not unusual to see A5's with newer fore end lumber. Still a nice auto, I'd love to try it on crows!

Could have been badly damaged, scratched, or dropped. Maybe the previous owner thought it would be easier to swap a new one in instead of repairing the original one. I contacted the gent selling it and he didn't know any info regarding the previous history of the gun. I showed the pics of th egun to the A5 experts on Shotgunworld (now those guys know their guns!) and they were dead certain that was a replacement stock. They also posted pics of an all original 1960 A5 20g and the checkering on the stock was definately different, as was the finish of the stock. Also, the forearms tend to crack more because of improper installation, rather than drying out. There is a small lip on the forearms, and if it isn't perfectly seated, they will very easily crack.
