please delete

Did I hear correctly that the new ruger american will have a 1-7twist barrel. If so, it would instantly jump to the top of the list with a 223 if you want to shoot some heavier bullets
 
I picked up a Ruger American in 30-06 for a cheap hunting rifle. I compared the savage, the ruger and the remington in store before buying and have to say I liked the feel of the Ruger American better. It fit me well, and I liked the stock better than the savage. Also, the V pillar bedding, full diameter bolt and lightweight were pluses for me.

I then went online and read reviews of people shooting the guns and found that the Ruger seemed to be a solid 1-1.25 MOA rifle out of the box. I don't plan on upgrading the rifle other than a scope and sling so it works for me. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet though.
