due to shoulder injury i can no longer shoot centrefire handguns so iam going to sell mine and replace with 22 semi-autos. one of my choices is the S&W M&P 22. first off i know smith doesn't make them. i believe WALTHER does? could someone please fill me in on the pros and cons. i already own a RUGER 22/45 and a S&W MODEL 34. any info would be appreciated or even other choices. i own a KIDON carbine conversion so what i will need is a pistol with bottom rail to fit kit. i do shoot handgun right handed but shoot rifle left handed and i can't switch either side it won't happen no matter how hard i try.

You are correct. The full size M&P 22 is made by Walther in Germany. The compact M&P 22 is made by S&W in the USA. I was going to buy a M&P 22 to go with my M&P 45 but decided to go a different route when I found out it was made in Germany. I ended up buying a GSG 1911-22 (also made in Germany). The M&P 22 is a fantastic gun. It eats pretty much any ammo you throw at it where as many other 22 autos are more ammo picky. Good luck with y our choice. The only reason I went with the GSG over the M&P was because I saw a beautiful black and polished model that really caught my eye and I do like the full size 1911 look and feel.

If it breaks it has to go down to the US for repair....prb won't have it for 2 years....ask me how I know ;)
I would personally look at another .22 but that's just me.

I had one and it was flawless, ran any ammo I put in it. Not as accurate as your 22/45, but easy soft shooting fun.

Nice and easy shooting handgun, I have one made in Germany and put it for sale only because I bought AA kit for G17 and use it extensively for IPSC practice. But M&P 22 is much fun to shoot, maybe not as accurate as 22/45 but fun for sure :)

I wanted a fun to shoot dependable semi that fit my hand well......M&P 22 was it. My only complaint was the factory sights needed replacing. Went with Firesights and am now shooting ragged holes at 10 yards after a few months of practice. It is not a target pistol but it is a lot of fun. I use it when I bring noobs to the range as it easy and pleasant to shoot. Not one jam yet.....knock on wood.

when mine broke I sent it to snapshots in quebec, I still don't have it back yet it's been 5 months but I should have it in a few weeks from what I was told. it's been a good gun though I wouldn't get rid of it.

I love this pistol..had a big problem with lead fouling but now just use plated ammo and it eats anything.

Super comfortable, great pointing, lightning fast shooter. Quite possibly one of the most fun handguns I have ever shot.

They must have changed things because i had to send mine to Murray Charlton then they eventually sent it to SW but that took almost 6 months then SW sat on it for over a year before they even touched it.

I like the M&P22. I don't own one as I am more of a Ruger fan but I did try out my friend's The trigger take-up is a bit too long for my taste since I got used to tuning my 22/45 with the Victory trigger to remove all the trigger take-up. It feels very good in the hand and fits as a glove.

Extra mags seems a bit hard to find... I tried to search for it late 2016 and early 2017 for my friend and I only found one East coast online store has stock. May be because it was after xmas/Black Friday? I think they would have restocked by now.

Mine runs like a fine German auto and as a duty pistol design is plenty accurate for me, hits steel every time at 45 feet.

Added: take down is easy, fast and straight forward, not so with many 22LR autos.
