Hi everyone,

I saw another thread talking about a 30-06 of one these 1895s from a new production. I have one of these in 405 takedown in my collection, serial number 406###. From what I gathered, it is from 1921-22 with the original leather case. I also have 8 boxes of 10pc 405 ammo not the new stuff from Hornady after 2002. Gun is pretty much mint condition, checkered walnut stock. Anyone know much about it, current value of the package?

Figuring out how to post pictures now...Will have them up in a bit.

Unfortunately the checkering and recoil pad are not original and the forend has been sanded significantly at the Schnabel. It also appears to have been re-blued as the side screws in the one photo show front to rear dishing. A sure sign of a polishing wheel and re-blue.

All in all it is a nice package and a good shooter but any collector value would seem to have been eliminated. At this point the case has more value than the rifle, whole package value between 1500 - 2000 maybe. Were it untouched in a package like that it would bring between 5-6K.

The original Kynoch ammo is likely worth in the neighborhood of $50.00 a box of 10 to a collector, maybe even a touch more if the boxes are in real good condition.

Thanks for your opinion, I'm not sure if it's because I took the pictures with my cellphone but they're not that great of a quality, I'll try to get some with a DSLR and repost.

In the mean time, do you have a picture that can I learn from about the original checkering and recoil pad?

Douglas really knows his ####. He's a knowledgeable Winchester collector.

Pics are all gone, snatched back by photobucket for lack of paying the graft..........
I do not have a checkered 95 in my collection however I have seen many, many photos and have handled a few. No pre 64 levers ever came with a recoil pad (as far as I know) and certainly there was no such thing by the time the 95 was discontinued in 1934 IIRC.

Base on what I search on the net, Winchester did use or offer other manufacturers' recoil pad in their catalog during that period of time, Jostam- Chicago is one of them, and Jostam got 3 different patented date. The one on my rifle "anti-flinch" patented October 12, 1915. If this is what Win offer and put on, would it consider "original"?
I am not 100%sure mine is, anyone here got a Win 1895 catalog, would you kindly check and comment?

Hey man, do some homework, search on the net before became an expert, wrong information mislead.

The original Winchester Red Rubber recoil pad was patented In June of 1922. That being said this pad is not original.

You are 50%right, if Win use other supplieras pad and they put their gun , is it consider"original"? sometimes people pretend to be an expert without supporting , that is sad.

You don't need to be an expert you just need to do proper research. if it doesn't say winchester or have the winchester logo winchester didn't put it on , the only other pads they used prior to releasing their own in June of 1922 is "silvers" and those are seldom seen I looked at your pad pictures it isnt original , if you would like more opinions feel free to post you're pictures on winchestercollectors.org
