my first guess would be 22 hornet or K hornet

The bolt face with the plunger extractor is nicely done, but now I'm thinking, you don't need a recessed bolt face for a rimmed round...... :confused:

So I'm interested in what the chamber is.

For $100 I'de be all over that, good buy.
 
Does anybody have any .22 Hornet brass lying around. I am unable to make any from other brass cases. I'll give .222 remington a try next but I highly doubt that's going to work.

I do not have the dies, and everyting the rifle came with is in the picture. The previous owner has passed on, and any information about it has also been lost forever.

The collar does not appear to be soldered on. I have not taken the bolt apart yet, as I just got the rifle yesterday.

I'll take it apart, for some more detailed pics of what's under the wood tomorrow.
 
i think it could a .22 remington jet. this is the only centerfire 22 i can find with a case head of .380 and uses a .222 diameter bullet, whichis closer to specs with a .22lr then either a hornet or .223 would be. would be an interesting little walking gun for varmnts, just finding components could be an issue.
 
if the 223 is only to long but close to the right diamiter. You could have a 22 Johnson, or a .221 Remington Fireball. what ever it turns out to be , slug the barrel to determin you have the right diameter bullets before shooting.
 
Update on C No.7 project.

The rifle was not previously registered, so there is no official indication of type of chambering. When I called to get it registered, I had the options of .222 Remington, .22LR, and 219 Ackley improved.

So far, I have been able to chamber a .222 remington, but not extract it, because the extractor claw is broken off. Hopefully a regular No4 extractor might work, or I'll have to have a new one made up.

Well....looks like a regular extractor is not going to work.....

That extractor does look broken off...hopefully a .303 one with some fitting will work. You might need to dremel off some on the inside to allow it to move in further, like is done to modify .303 extractors for 7.62.

So .222 Remington fits in and the bolt can close?

You have a CNo7 that's been converted to centre fire.....most likely 223 Remington. The bolt head has been modied to the Remington style. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WITH THIS!!!!! It has a 22 rimfire barrel and set up for 223 or maybe 222. The cases were necked down slightly to accept the 22LR diameter bullet. These conversions were done by guys very familar with reloading...falling into the wrong hands it's a death trap. A company in Kitchener Ontario did these conversions in the late 70's...a few have shown up a recent gunshows for resale. If you need further info PM. Ron
