Looks like a Czech VZ-24 built in Czechoslovakia with WW2 German parts ? The winter trigger guard, from what I have read, is a post war Czech adoption but I believe it has it's roots in late war German developments.

My guess is that your rifle was built just after WW2 ended and probably made off the German/Czech equipment in Brno.

By the way, very nice crisp crest on that receiver!

Yes, post war Czech K98.

It is the post war Winter Trigger Guard.

Check the Czech (pun intended) rifles on milsurps.com. It will tell you all about it.

Like they said, Post war k98. Super deal!! These rifles are usually found with the Czech rampant lion ground off and otherwise defaced. The Czechs sold a lot of these to Israel. Seems to me I read that the crossed rifle stamp indicates they were released from Czech Army arsenals, looks like one under the serial on the receiver. They make great shooters and if you look closely you may find some parts with Nazi WaA 63 markings, the marks for late war Waffenwerke Bruen(Brno). The Czechs didn't throw parts away after the war. I'm no authority but the large trigger guard and turned down bolt don't say VZ-24 to me.

The trigger is a stamped winter trigger guard designed during the war in cooperation with Mauser Obendorf but not used on any WWII produced rifles. They are found on post war Czech and post war Czech re-furbished rifles.

The Czech's/Slovak's had several left over parts and went into post war production right after the war.

This specific one has the Czech/Slovak Lions crest which was also used on VZ24's produced prior to the war.

Members are correct that on post war rifles, these were generally ground down before sale in order to hide their origin. Most went to the middle east and Isreal (they sold to both sides). Nice rifle and rare with the crest intact. They talk about this rifle in the book "Kriegsmodell".

Samco Global Arms in Florida has been selling these variation of the Czesk K-98 for many years now, but the nicer are now sold out.

JP, do you think you can bring some of those in?

No, Samco does not export rifles. Beside the nice ones are gone, I was there about two years ago when they still had some of the nice ones and plenty of Swiss K-31 rifles and those lovely Persian Mausers.

Yes, made from leftover parts and dated 1950 on the receiver.
Does anyone know if the tgf receivers were new manuf. or are built off of scrubbed receivers that were re-coded? I have a very minty tfg (it looks to be unissued) but it is not matching (ie bolt and rec. no other sn on rifle).
If anyone else would like to share some pics of there tgf's that would be great!

I bought two like that in 1965, at the Army & Navy, one at Regina and another one at New Westminster, for about $35 each. They had a pile of them. Both mine were the "crest ground off" version. I still have one that is the way I bought it. They didn't have your style of front site. These had ordinary 98 hoods. My buddy bought a No. 5 Enfield at Regina at the same time I bought the Mauser. I think he paid about $35 as well.

Come to think about it, the Mauser I bought at Regina was the first non-bubba'd rifle I ever bought. I don't know now which one is which, but the other one got a scope mounted on it.

You have a very nice rifle, my friend. Being matching and not defaced makes it a keeper, for sure!
