As far as I know TGF was the last barrel code used on K98's out of Brunn. I think a lot of them ended up in East Germany. Yours may have been refurbished there. Does it have a triangle stamped on the stock or a 1001 stamped into the wood? There were new manufacture as far as I know.

I have a Brno in similar condition (minus the nice crest on the reciever) and another Czech put together for Israel in .308 with some really dark wood. I paid about $120 each including taxes in the mid nineties from King Sol's in TO. Though it was lots of money as a kid, I was shocked when I first came onto CGN in 2003 and saw the change in price! think I know of a place where you might still be able to get a rifle like the one pictured, but it's much more than $125!
There's a website out there about the K98 that goes into considerable detail about the Czech Mausers and other put togethers by them such as the Israeli rifles that often come with winter triggers. The Czechs also sold Israel other equipment such as Me 109 airframes that were flown by the fledgling Israeli Air Force.
When I first joined CGN back in late 2003, I thought that some new regulatory measures or lack of importers had artificial raised the price of surplus, and thought I'd await some new shipments for reduced prices (much along the lines of what's happened with the SKS). Now if I see any decent milsurp in the $2-300 range I at least check it out for a possible bargain.
