You'd best lie down. Sitting won't be enough. Epp's recently sold one with the detachable mag, in VG condition, with a red dot sight, for $1125.00. Seems decidedly steep to me too. Might be a misprint.
Goble's here in London is listing an early model at $649. Doesn't say if it has a tube or detachable mag. Goble's isn't the least expensive place either. They want $51.50 for a mag.

I have seen a couple of the detachable mag 44s go for $600. Can't comment on the tube fed, but anything over the $500 mark seems a bit excessive.

You are talking about a vintage Deerstalker 44 mag tube fed (4+1 ) This is the first centrefire long gun Ruger made when they started in business i own one in mint ( read new in the box ) condition and i was offer a 1000.00 for if you can check the year on it mine is a 1960, if its not rusted to death and even if it is i would pay it and run, i read somewhere they only made it until 1963... JP

Their value seems to have gone through the roof. I've owned 3 and they used be had for $250 to $450 depending on condition, it seems the sky is the limit now. I would be comfortable paying $500 for a nice one, but they seem scarce these days.

I have been looking for the DM rotory mag model for a long time, nothing seems to pop up. there have been a few tube feed ones, (they are supposed to be better) but I want the rotory mag model, anyway. Sadly, the tube feed ones that have popped up are $550. and up! I have the lever action DM one. Looks like I'll just have to be happy with it, unless I get lucky! :(

Hard to be estimating the value without knowing the condition. A nice one certainly fetches a good price, $500 or more. Often more. Hope you get it at a good price. They are nice compact guns. Mine never gave me a lick of trouble.

My "check is in the mail" for one right now. Hopefuly it gets there and the rifle will be in the mail headed my way soon.

It is a rifle that has long been on my list to one day own. In Alberta for a long time it would have been nothing but a fun plinker of coyote shooter. Now we can use a .44 mag. to hunt big game so it will be more usefull for me.

What a gun is "worth" often depends on how much you want it. I have payed more than I should have a few times for guns that were high on my desire list. And a couple times I have got a real bargan and did not like it and promtly sold it.

An item is worth somewhere between what a seller wants and what a buyer is willing to pay , but if the seller doesn't have a clue to value and the buyer is unsure of the price of a discontinued item (these tube magazine carbines are not made any more) , information from people who may have purchased one recently (in Canada) is useful in deciding value. This way no one gets screwed and the buyer can sleep at night.
Thank you to those that have given me an idea of price to offer by PM and in this thread.
It would seem that the prices vary between $350.00 and $600.00 for a basic carbine in decent shape used but not abused with no scope, I am going to offer $475.00 and it will probably surprise him as he feels it is worth less .

Karma will come back in kisses for you.

I just sold mine to my dad, he didn't want it going to far he said. Bought it for $475 on the EE with a vintage 1.5-4.5 Bushnell Banner on tipoff mounts. Great little gun, but no room in the vault. Good on you for making sure to par a fair price.
