It is not CBS you have to be worried about, it is the U.S. customs at the border. Make sure you thoroughly check the U.S. guidelines for exporting a firearm, if you google that, you should come up with the official PDF document that explains it all.

If you meet all of their requirements, there is almost no way they can seize your firearm at the border for missing some slip of required paper.

that doesnt make sense, when im coming across the border home to canada im only dealing with canadian customs. The US has nothing to do with it.
 
You might want to get in touch with Questar or Prophet River Arms regarding importing the rifle, as they do this, as you will probably/will have it confiscated without having the proper paper work on each side of the border as well as being up sh/t creek without a paddle.

i still dont get the whole both sides of the border thing. Im only having the firearms in my possesion on the way home to canada. What does the US have to do with it?

They now (US Border patrol) have spot checks set up for Canadians exiting the US just for this reason. Looking for firearms, ammo etc. If you get stopped with that firearm and you are in possession of a firearm in the USA without the proper paperwork in place ( I believe you even need a hunting licence to possess a firearm in the USA if your not a citizen) you better be prepared for a lot of explaining with some nice shiny bracelets on.
 
ya i forgot about those lol. stupid terrorists had to ruin it for everyone. Ill look into the licensing for firearms possesion in the states. Am i right in the fact that i really only need to have it registered in canada in order to bring it across the border if im not spot checked? And if i am what does that mean? do i just need to present proof i can possess that firearm in the states? THanks for the help everyone ill be sire to let all of you know how this goes, or if you need to bail me outta jail.

I imported 3 bolt actions from NV last year. 2 of them made it in around 8 months; the 3rd was over a year. The US side has apparently become slower in processing outgoing firearms.
Not something you want to do with expectations of getting it next week. Way slower according to the importer. Why so slow? It's the gov't, things just happen that way sometimes.
 
Heres a question how do they know you didnt just bring the rifle into the states and are leaving with it. And i highly doubt the previous owners would have had them registered. Have any of you ever tried taking a rifle registered to you back across the border anyway? I think the sponsors here get enough money.
