I have an hp9 with a 20 inch rifle sight barrel and an a.t.i. top folder, would it be legal to carry this on a deer hunt here in southern ontario. I think it would be fine but also thought what if I had the folder up and met the game warden. Would he look at me like I'm carrying an A.K. I know it's an odd question but thought I would like to hear your thoughts!

The hp9 is a chinese Shotgun isn't it. That's a shame, you would buy something like that. Did someone give you bad advice?

You've obviously never tried the HP9 to know that its an excellent gun for half the price of a Remington 870. I've had one now for 7 years. Its never had a single problem, fit and finish is still excellent. If you're going to knock on Chinese made goods, then you should take a look at most of the things you have sitting in your house.

As for the question, just make sure you get a 2+1 plug like UncleMax mentioned. With a 20 inch barrel I doubt you'll be under the 26"OAL requirement so theres nothing the park warden can say about your shotgun.

Don't bother trying with him...its its not overly expensive, heavy and totally Fuddish...he sticks his nose up at it:)

I dont agree with you Win64 about the HP-9 but well said...lol
And to the OP..its totally legal here in Ont....Just have a plug in it

Thanks again guys one last question pertaining to this firearm. I am thinking of mounting a browning reflex sight to it. Has anyone tried one on a 12ga

What is this apparent need among some tacticool shooters to once having adorned their "shottie" with fancy and largely useless geegaws to think it is a suitable hunting gun?

Top folders might look cool in the mirror but they are useless for hunting. Do the wannabes practice high-speed, low-drag tactical unfolding when they see a deer? No folder and certainly not the POS ATI top folder will give as steady and solid a shooting platform as a full stock. Admittedly it's what the Fudds use and won't impress many COD players but it's a better choice if you are actually serious about hunting.

not to mention the fact that it's seriously SLOWER to drag into action- with mine( a winny defender btw) you have to push the button, swivel the stock, and then it clicks into place- i got it more as a novelty and space saver than anything else- it should be mount, aquire target, and boom, not oh s*t, button, swivel, mount, acquire, boom

Why do you guys(Win/64 & Claybuster) care so much about what other people do with there own possessions? If it works for him for hunting, great. The more hunters the better I say. He asked whether it was legal, not if it fit your definition of a "proper" shotgun.

Attitudes like this do nothing but divide the firearms community, and turn of new shooters/hunters. If this continues, soon there will be no hunters/shooters to carry on the sport.

Something my mother taught me comes to mind: If you cant say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Just my opinion, take it for what it worth.

Cheers,

Brendan

It's not a matter of what's "proper." You used that word not me. It's a matter of modifications being made to a gun that make it less effective in the field.

If the gun was bought new the guy's HP9 came with a full stock. Instead of hunting deer with a crappy folding top folder and wondering whether it's "legal" if he's serious about shooting a deer he'd be best advised to put the orginal stock back on.
