Hey so if I wanted to plink, the only part of the law I understand is that I am allowed to do it on private land with permission. I don't know anyone with land like that so where could you plink legally?

Campgrounds far from the road?
Random forests?
Does it have to be certain amount of KMs away from a town.

Where do you most often go.

Also check County and Township By-Laws on discharge of firearms - where, and when - e.g. someplaces do still have Not On Sunday laws.....

as bad as halifax is getting if you fire one shot you will have the local swat team looking for you and if they see you with a gun you are in trouble. halifax is the worst for being an anti gun city in the province.

Lol what about Toronto or Montreal or Quebec or inner city Vancouver

Most people use Crown Land for their "plinking". Most, if not all major cities have a Bylaw that prohibits the discharging of firearms or airguns within city limits.

Most campgrounds are ran by the Provincial Govt (in Alberta anyway) and as such shooting is prohibited.

If you tell us where you live someone might be able to tell you where to find a local spot that is often used for shooting on crown land.

When I took my PAL they had the local area map on the wall with the area's shaded where bylaws prohibited shooting , they have the same map on the wall at the town hall.

Um I'm pretty sure firing inside city limits anywhere is the same unless
At a range.

Were I live you look up city limits. you look up bylaws for the city you look up to see if its crown land then if nothing says no you can shoot there. Now you have to make sure you do it safely don't want to blast away and find out there is a road or trail behind it.

In N.B. you are only allowed to target practice at an approved range. No matter how much land you own, if you want to target practise, it has to be approved by the provincial firearms officer, or the DNR can give you a permit to site in your gun (one time deal), if you have the proper set up.

I should update my location. I live in Courtenay on Vancouver Island.
I guess I'll ask the gun range for advice or a map.

There are these dirtbiking quarries I know of which would be the safest spot and I've seen tons of shotgun shells but Idk if that makes it legal.

woobie is there anywhere around Niagara that is legal? I have a friend out in Wainfleet with a couple acres but weve been told they have bylaws prohibiting any discharge of firearms

Hey, I am in Niagara Falls. Is there anywhere in the Niagara Region you know of where you can go shoot? Gun clubs aside of course.

As far as I understand it, as long as you need to have a hunting license and need to make sure that you know what is in season or a conservation officer could bust you for poaching. Personally, I've only used the Fish and Game range so far but I've heard Google maps is your friend. Use topographical maps to make sure that you find a safe spot (more than 400m from the inland highway).

I found an area that allows hunting called Humberstone Marsh, just outside of Niagara Falls and Chippawa.

I don't want to hunt any game, I simply would like to go set up some targets somewhere and shoot. Is this possible? Would it piss off any hunters? Do I still need all the valid hunting licenses and tags and such?

Edit: I suppose I Would need a hunting license, but tags? If I'm only shooting paper in a safe location, would I need tags?

I'm new to all of this, forgive my ignorance.

The OP is in BC.
In BC, plinking is allowed in the bush, no requirement for a hunting license, or only during hunting season.
You do still need to be aware of No Shooting zones, and follow all federal gun regs, of course.

Generally speaking, fed regs say what you can own,
prov regs state what you can hunt (Fed for migratory game birds...),
and local regs for where you can shoot.
