Hi All

I am very rarely beaten by a relic, but this thing has defied identification for quite some time now.

Recovered from a British army dump site, this piece is quite heavy and about four inches from tip to tip, and about two inches at its widest point. This is one of numerous examples of the same item recovered from the site. Every single item recovered from this site has come from a weapon or weapon mount, armourer's tools, case catcher bags etc. etc. It is definitely something military given it came from in among known WW2 relics, but what the hell is it!!??

The site has produced weapon and tripod parts from Browning MG, Vickers MG, Bren, Besa, Lewis, Lee-Enfield, Sten and many more, but I simply cannot track this piece down. It could be part of a tripod, or perhaps a grenade launcher mount, or possibly part of a firing mechanism, but I just can't find it!!

The hollow rod has a thread at the base which shows something screwed into it. The piece on the other end, offset, would have originally moved up and down and has some sort of cam inside.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

RRPG

Well from what's visible it looks to be something left hand. As you had mentioned it came from a pit that had other Bipods parts. You also mentioned that there were others of similar dimensions do they have any different marking's? Was this a scrap dump for busted junk parts or was it a surplus dump? C.F.S co might be your best lead for company search results. The other junk parts may give you more Indications of possible provenance. Any shell casings in the mix? It's looks that's it was some kind of Tightening Lock Assembly, as the side arm piece seems to be used as a lever or ratchet . At six inches in length I would imagine it's a piece for something larger that S,A,W, mount .cheers

Thanks Grizz......but they only formed in 1994 so it can't be them I'm afraid.

Yes Buzz, the LH did strike me as left hand, but then I've only ever found LH ones! None the other way round! Could it mean left hand thread?
