A (semi)co-workers father died recently and while going through his things found a sxs shotgun. He doesn't have a PAL and has no interest in keeping it but I'd hate to see someone lowball him.

Doesn't look like much but just want to know what to ask.

I am far from a shotgun expert.

What do you think?

Thanks!

Its Spanish made with an Eibar house mark and proofed for both Black and smokeless powder. Can't give you an age but its after 1931. Such guns are common and hold little value unless you find a makers mark that might indicate a higher quality piece. Such guns on Tradex go for $200 to $250 dollars but if its in exceptional shape it may bring more. There are double gun experts here that can give you more information as to age.

I think that the "12 - 70" marking may indicate that it is a 12 ga with 70mm chambers. It may also indicate that it is Belgium made. I'll keep digging in to it and see what I can find.

Unless there are other numbers on the bottom of the barrels, the numbers do not match the serial number on the water table which would indicate a gun made up of parts or the barrels were replaced. Is there a number stamped into the bottom of the forearm iron ? All numbers on the water table, barrels and forearm should match. Can you post a pic of the barrel flats ? Usually there is more information stamped on the flats.

I'll try to get some. Gun is not with me right now.

Thank you. I did not know AYA was the mfg.

Thanks to all respondents (especially those who called me blind even after I stated that I know very little about these....)

Yes, the letters AYA with the lion over top that is on the water table is the mark for AYA. There should be markings on the flat part of the barrels (when removed) that may indicate the year made. There may also be the matching serial number stamped into it that matches the water table.

AyA make a wide variety in grades of guns, but all should be durable and reliable. Looks to have seen very little use. It has ejectors, so that's a plus. Single selective trigger, Greener crossbolt. 18.2 mm translates to 0.7165" barrel diameter, so I'm guessing it was maybe built before the popular advent of plastic shot cups. I'm guessing it has a rubber butt pad?

Looks like it was a field-grade duck gun. Nice piece. Certainly worth more than $250.
