Hey 88 - I'm still leaning towards the M/1897 Engineers Carbine. However, it has been sporterized sometime in the past. The stock has been cut back, the upper handguard discarded, the bolt is mismatched and it looks like the front sight post has been modified. If you were to restore it to it's military configuration then the stock would have to be extended and reshaped and the handguard totally reproduced. When finished it would still have mismatched numbers so it would only be a representative example. However, because there were so few made, it may be worthwhile. It could be done but it wouldn't be cheap. Do a quick search on here and you'll see the M/1912 Carbine I had rebuilt to show you what's involved.
